This Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS began life as a coupe and was converted to a Spyder. The seller has owned it for 4 years and purchased it from an individual in the Bay Area who had owned it for 10 years. The conversion is believed to have been done by Straman in the ’80s, and this Ghibli is still powered by its original 4.9L SS engine #2024 with quad Weber carburetors and a ZF 5-speed gearbox. Service is up to date and the car is ready to drive following the installation of new front suspension, a brake system overhaul, timing chain replacement, and more work as detailed below. It is now offered with a clean California title and a reproduction tool kit.

A genuine 4.9 SS sold new in USA, converted to EU spec, supplied with wire wheels, power steering, air conditioning and Autovox radio.
Now for sale on Enricos maserati Page June 2018

This 1971 Maserati Ghibli SS Coupe is finished from the factory in Rosso Fuoco over a Nero Connolly leather interior with red carpeting. It was originally specified with the desirable five-speed manual transmission, Ruote Borrani wire wheels, power steering, and a Becker Europa radio as confirmed by its original build sheet. Factory documentation shows that this example was completed in March 1971 and was delivered new to Grossman Motor Car Corporation in New York that September. It is thought to have remained stateside until it was registered in Italy in 2013, where it immediately underwent a comprehensive bare metal restoration. All of its major systems were overhauled—including its engine, transmission, differential, steering system, brakes, suspension, interior, and air conditioning.

Italian classic car experts G.P.S. Classics were commissioned by the Florida-based consignor in 2020 to inspect this elegant Ghibli, located in Polverigi, Italy at the time. Their meticulous survey confirmed the restoration’s high quality and recommended further refinement work to bring the Ghibli even closer to its original factory-correct specification. G.P.S. finished the body in its original shade of Rosso Fuoco, serviced the air conditioning system, refreshed the electrical system, and fitted restored Borrani RW4198 15×7 wheels with new Michelin XWX radial tires and ANSA exhaust. The car returned to the United States in November 2020, entering a distinguished collection of fellow concours-quality classic cars for the past five years.

This 1971 Maserati Ghibli SS is offered with its original build and road test sheets, Italian road registration, and a Maserati Certificate of Authenticity issued September 2016 confirming its numbers-matching engine and original color combination. One of just 425 Ghibli SS Coupes, this example stands out for its meticulous restoration and careful return to factory-correct specification, offering a rare opportunity to acquire one of Maserati’s most celebrated grand tourers in its most authentic form.

The car’s first owner specified a brilliant car. This Maserati Ghibli SS Coupé has an “Oro Kelso” (gold, code:2463214) finish with a “Senape” (tan, Connolly, code: PAC.1775) interior trim. The car looks absolutely great. Its external look is complimented by the welded Borrani Dial rims and Ansa exhaust. The Giorgetto Giugiaro designed bodywork is in fine condition with nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The “Oro Kelso” paintwork has been res-prayed for cosmetic reasons and is in very nice condition with only minor blemishes. The brightwork is also very good. The original interior trim is a feast for the eyes. The carpets are neat and the leather is supple with a few light patches of wear, that only add to the car’s allure. All switches and instruments are in very good condition and working order. The interior condition is commiserate with the car’s low mileage. Mechanically this Ghibli SS also has enjoyed splendid maintenance.

This 4.9-litre Ghibli coupé was delivered new to its first owner in Italy where it remained until being sold to Germany in 2014 having had three owners by that time. It is equipped with the ZF five-speed manual gearbox, air conditioning and power steering, and is finished in red with a beautiful light beige leather interior, the latter retaining its original wood-rim steering wheel. Repainted some years ago (from yellow) and re-trimmed in 2000, the car is said to be otherwise original, driving well with a strong engine (freshly inspected) and reliable gearbox. It comes with an owner’s manual and Italian registration papers.

Here’s the car on Ivan’s site.

1971 Maserati Ghibli, Here is a fantastic example of a Maserati Ghibli SS finished in a stunning Tobacco Metalizzato with Senape mustard yellow leather interior. Only 425 Ghibli SS coupes were built and less than a handful were finished in this fabulous colour. Equipped with a 335hp 4.9 V8 and 5 speed manual transmission.
Built in March 1971 With a known history since new originally ordered by a Mrs Nancy A Haywood of New York, its was ordered as a US spec for a European delivery with Italian “EE2968” license plates. The car was fitted European exhaust manifolds, air conditioning and Borrani wire wheels from the factory, it was registered Switzerland and lived in the South of France until 1980 when Mrs Hywood imported the car to the USA where it was registered in North Carolina. I have all the original import documentation, as well as the original service booklet.
In March 2004 the car was then purchased by a well know Maserati expert in Georgia Mr. Ivan Ruiz with only 18,900 miles who offered the car for sale to one of my clients and he purchased the car and brought it to Los Angeles in late 2004 and added it to his car stable. The car was serviced regularly by Italian car specialist Fast Cars of Torrance CA. Hard copies of the service records and registration slips are all present.
I sold the car on behalf of my client in 2017 who added the car to his extensive car collection. The car had several thousand spent to correct some non original items, oil leaks, and the air conditioning was serviced. An upgraded Alpine bluetooth stereo, amplifier and Focal speakers were expertly installed hidden from view at a cost of $3,800.
The car is now offered for sale with 22k original miles, its a rare and unique chance to purchase a highly desirable SS Ghibli with great history and originality.

Built in February 1971 and supplied by the factory to its first owner Mr Bompani of Modena, registered MO 243630 and converted to factory spyder specification in period in Italy. Subsequently sold to Germany in the late 1970s and imported into the UK in 1988 by Mr. John Cigarini of London, who cherished and kept the car through to 1993 when it was sold to Mr Richard Howard of Reading before being sold in 2000 to Mr Simon Brand who kept the car through to 2014. Miscellaneous work was carried out over the years by Bill McGrath and others and more recently the car has been subject to much expenditure including a full engine rebuild by respected marque specialist Mike Jones.
All electrical systems work as they should and the rebuild includes much work to replace the steering column switches correctly, together with re installing the factory air conditioning.
A partial retrim has been carried out by the Trim Centre to include new wool carpets. Finished in its original colour scheme of red with a contrasting black hide interior and black hood and with its original matching numbers engine; the owner confirms that the engine is in excellent order and the body, chassis, interior, transmission and paint are reported to be in good order.
