Originally supplied to Italy. Converted to RHD after importation into Australia. The factory ‘Avviso Di Spedizione’ is dated 13 May 1970 and confirms the car was delivered new to Mantova, Italy. The car is a factory SS and was built with the ‘Motore 5000’ (4.9 litre engine), 5 speed manual gearbox and was finished in bleu ischia with a bianco leather interior. Imported to Australia by Melbourne based Maserati agents Talbot Motors. Has been a Victoria car for much of its life and was red in colour. It is now the original Ischia Blu. The engine was rebuilt by Hallam Engineering at the time owned by Frank Hallam of REPCO Brabham fame.

New owner just bought this car in Paris in June 2017

According to confirmation from Maserati SpA this particular car was constructed in May 1970 with a 4930 cc engine.
The original colour of the car was Rosso Rubino metallic and the interior was in black Connolly leather. The car had also been fitted with power-steering and had the lightweight magnesium wheels.
The car had been ordered by the Swiss Maserati importer in Lugano and they delivered the car on 27-05-1970 to their official Maserati dealer Ruf AG in Offringen. Ruf AG has sold the car to first Swiss owner Mr. H.Tschudin from Grenchen.
In 1974 this car had only 4.000 km’s on the clock and was then purchased in Switzerland by wealthy Dutch industrialist Dries van der Loft. This Mr. Dries van der Loft was already a vivid car and racing-enthusiast since the 1940’s and he was the founder of the Dutch Racing Drivers’ Club. In 1952 the Dutch Grand Prix was given Championship status and Dries van der Lof participated in this Grand Prix with one of John Heath’s HWM-Alta’s against the likes of Stirling Moss, Jean Behra, Alberto Ascari, Nino Farina, Pierro Taruffi, Ducan Hamilton and many other great drivers.
Dries van der Loft had evolved into one of Holland’s leading car collectors and racing enthusiast. The newly acquired Maserati Ghibli went into his collection of major Maserati’s, Ferrari’s and others. But is seemed that Dries van der Lof did like to use the Ghibli for commuting because when he put the car for sale again in 1983 it had 63.000 km’s on the clock.
The car was purchased by another Dutch car loving family who is today still the owner of the car. Dries van der Lof assured the family that the car never had any accidents or damage, which is still the situation today.
In 1985 the new owners had the ZF-gearbox overhauled by Media in The Hague, because of a faulty bearing.
At the same moment they had the front- and rear-bumper re-chromed. In 1995-96 some rust-damage was taken car off, which had appeared on the edges of the wheel-arches, front of engine-cover and the tail-section; the most common spots on the Ghibli’s. Work was done by Jan van de Visch in Barneveld and then the car was repainted in its original colour again and the wheels were repainted.
The Maserati has proven itself to be very reliable and it did only let the family down once when just before arriving back home the clutch cylinder gave way due to a broken oil-ring. On regular long trips through Scotland it always performed flawless. This Ghibli has been maintained regularly over the years and it was always stored dry and warm. Last year the brake-callipers, brake master-cylinder and Bonaldi brake power assistance have been overhauled. Engine and gearbox are on fresh fluids and the rear-axle/limited slip will be done shortly. At the same moment carburettors were checked, adjusted and where necessary overhauled. Total mileage now is 107.500 km’s which is all documented.
This Ghibli has never been restored, just well maintained and serviced. All original bodyschütz is still in the engine-room,
inside the wheel-arches and on the underside of the car.
The interior is as it was in 1970, upholstery and carpets are original. Only the drivers floor mat and the dashboard did need to be replaced. The original crick with its bag and the original tool-bag are present. Only the original Maserati tools and instruction manual are missing. This Ghibli is complete, even the foam pillows that go under the mats in the back, behind the seats, are present. All gauges and switches are correct and in working order. Presently a new lock for the glove-box is being fabricated as that has been faulty since the car was bought in 1983. Same for the little handle that is needed to close the power-windows in case of power-loss, is being fabricated now. All tinted glass and window-rubbers in the car are original. Heath-isolation on inside of engine-cover is original, so are strips in engine-compartment, Bonaldi power brake cylinder, carburetors and airfilter. This car has never been messed around with. It has power steering and air-conditioning. Airco needs to be revived as it was rarely used. It would be nice to fit an original Hirschmann power antenna again. The original Campagnolo magnesium wheels are still with the car but presently are 4 new aluminium Campagnola wheels fitted to the car for safety reasons, with new Michelin XWX tyres. The spare-wheel in the car is still the original 1970 magnesium Campagnola with Campagnolo transfers, and the original 1970 tyre.
Today this car is in good and original condition, with fresh MOT. It is a great performer with good mechanics and a rare find in its originality with early ownership of a local F1 driver as a bonus.
In line with other cars being offered for sale on the open market, the private owner has priced his car at 300.000 euro

Manufactured in July 1970, this 4.7-litre Ghibli was purchased by its current owner from marque specialist, Mistral Motors in Bussolengo, Italy in 2005. The car had been subject to restoration prior to the new owner registering the car in the UK. In 2007 the owner decided to repaint the Maserati to match his Light Car Company Rocket, whereupon a bare-metal body restoration was undertaken, removing any corrosion then present. The cream leather interior has recently been cleaned and renovated and, as the car has been used sparingly and professionally stored in the interim, both the body and interior remain in very good condition. Mechanically, the car has been maintained by several well known independent specialists with an extensive service having been completed recently, and now benefits from new tyres to original specification. Accompanying paperwork consists of sundry restoration invoices, a V5C registration document and a freshly issued MoT certificate.

Engine Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS – AM115/49*1756* – Heavily damaged: having a broken crankshaft.
The heads are complete and undamaged, with valves, springs, camshafts and timing chain. The conrods, pistons, and rings are undamaged. The intake manifold and flywheel are included.
This engine would be ideal as a display model, the exterior is very nice and undamaged.

According to the Maserati Classiche certificate this Ghibli was delivered
to its first owner, Silvio Poletto, in Padua / Italy on 2 October 1970. The
car moved to Sweden in 1976. Since 2015 the Maserati is in Germany
and has been technically serviced by the marque specialist „Steinke
Sportwagen“ in Hamburg.
This GT with an interesting history convinces with its elegant, sporty
colour scheme and its very original condition. Engine number and colouring
correspond to the delivery (“Matching-numbers!”)

European specification, Finnish (EU) registration with history in Italy, Sweden and Finland. A very well preserved original example. Car has been resprayed in the late 1980’s and the paintwork finish could be better. On the other hand originality has been well preserved since very few parts have been removed for the respray.
