Was sold new to Edmond de Cazelet, a banker from Monaco but resident in Southern France.
Chassis no. 2110 was built in February 1971 and delivered at the end of the month to Thepenier, the well-known marque distributor in Saint-Cloud, in western Paris. Finished in black paint over Cinghiale leather, the Ghibli was ordered for Edouard de Cazalet, a banker who eventually relocated to Washington, DC, when he began working for the World Bank. He also owned a 300S at that time which he had road registered for public roads. Ghibli #2110 was a special order from the factory in Black with Pigskin interior including headliner. In place of the cushions behind the front seats it has a tall storage bin.
The Maserati was then sold in the 1980s to Richard Grinstead of Wylie, South Carolina, and he gradually performed a complete restoration that refreshed the car both mechanically and cosmetically. After passing in 1995 to Richard Pew of Arlington, Virginia, the Ghibli was sold in 2006 to the esteemed collector Joe Corbaccio of Hershey, Pennsylvania, before being shipped to the UK, where it resides today.
Currently displaying 63,656 kilometres, this Maserati retains the original V-8 engine and colour scheme, and it would make a fabulous addition to any assemblage of European GT models, sure to stoke the passions of marque enthusiasts worldwide.

PROVENANCE Bill Brown, Los Angeles, California (acquired new in 1972) Larry Goltz, Los Angeles, California (acquired from the above in 1982) Ivan Ruiz, Atlanta, Georgia (acquired from the above in 2008) Cary Cooper, Birmingham, Alabama (acquired from the above in 2008) Ivan Ruiz, Atlanta, Georgia (acquired from the above) Al Ritchie, West Palm Beach, Florida (acquired from the above) Current Owner (acquired from the above) The Ghibli offered here is distinguished by its factory options, such as power steering, Borrani wire wheels and quad-tipped exhaust. Numbered 2112, this Ghibli is the more powerful 4.9-liter SS version, as designated by the “49” prefix in the chassis number. Ordered new by Los Angeles music producer Bill Brown, the Ghibli joined a stable of several fine sports cars, each one finished in black on black. Originally red, 2112 was repainted prior to delivery with 15 coats of hand-rubbed deep-gloss black lacquer, matching the black leather interior. In 1982, and showing approximately 21,000 miles, Mr. Brown sold his prized Ghibli to Larry Goltz. Under Mr. Goltz’s care, maintenance records indicate an emphasis on preservation, with parts such as the starter motor and water pump being rebuilt, not replaced. Mr. Goltz applied Connolly Hide Food to the interior monthly, hand glazed and waxed the paint every two to three months, and never hosed 2112 down, instead wiping the finish with a damp cloth in an effort to prevent corrosion. In February 2009, now under the care of Cary Cooper of Birmingham, Alabama, and showing 32,195 miles, Old World Motorcars of Georgia performed an engine rebuild. The documentation of this work runs over a dozen pages and totals over $28,000. Other, smaller service work from this period indicates a keen attention to detail and concern for 2112. Today, this Ghibli presents very well inside and out. The black leather interior is beautifully preserved, and there is matching, fitted luggage and an impressive factory tool kit. The recent mechanical work, and documentation continuing from one fastidious owner to the next, make this among the most charismatic surviving Ghiblis. With known ownership from new, and possessing the desirable 4.9 SS specification, this Ghibli calls for close inspection and serious consideration.

#2122 is a fantastic example of Maserati’s famed Ghibli 4.9 Liter SS Coupe, completed in May of 1971 by Officine A. Maserati S.p.A., wearing Russo Fuoco (red) paint over Bianco (white) Connolly leather with comforts worthy of such a thoroughbred GT: adjustable steering column, anti-theft steering lock, tinted & electric windows, reclining seats with head rests, heated rear windscreen, dashboard clock, Becker Mexico radio (later fitted with a Blaupunkt) and factory air conditioning. Long excursions are intended to be comfortable thanks to power steering and plenty of power on reserve from the 4.9 liter V8 motor. Maserati S.p.A. of Modena confirms with original Certificate of Origin that all chassis, engine, transmission and body numbers are matching as it left the factory. Additional Classiche documents include: Final Tests data Sheet, Technical & Aesthetic Characteristics, End of Line Data Sheet and Delivery Note.
The SS was originally purchased by Pittsburgh shipping magnate John Fuery. According to a history report in the cars file Fuery used the car as an occasional driver, accumulating just 5,900 miles before selling it in August of 1987 to Eldo and Betty Bisacca of McKeesport, PA. Eldo also sparingly drove the Maserati over the following 13 years, until his passing in 2000. The car remained under the Family’s ownership with Betty in storage, and it wasn’t until 2014, following her death that the car was discovered in her dry but much cluttered garage. A PA annual registration sticker dated 11/85 was removed and laminated. The sticker indicates on the reverse side that the car had 5,876 miles on 4-30-85. During Eldo and Betty’s ownership the car received one repaint over the original paint while the interior is original and displays an attractive patina. There is also a signed odometer disclosure from June 25, 2014 stating 9,246 original miles.
Upon discovery in 2014 the car was purchased by a respected collector/dealer from Arizona and he subsequently sold us the car right after his purchase. During our ownership an extensive engine out major service and detail encompassing the entire vehicle has been performed. This particular SS exceeds all expectations behind the wheel, with a pleasurable driving experience.
Service Performed included: a complete engine out major service, both heads were removed and machined with new valves, springs and seals, water pump rebuilt and equipped with new driving gear, the motor was then completely resealed, rebuild carburetors on top, rebuilt radiator, new spark plugs and wires. New thermostat, drive belts, hoses and correct jubilee clamps, along with all finishes and decals. Before the engine was reintroduced, its bay was steam cleaned and the radiator support restored to new. All electrical components and lights are in correct working order, including new window motors and brass gears replacing the plastic originals. ODD Parts then completely refurbished the entire column switch assembly with a lifetime warranty. Lastly, the air conditioning system was recharged to a cold blowing and fully functioning system.
With just under 9,500 miles showing, this U.S. spec coupe makes for an exceptionally solid base to drive and enjoy in original form and with the desirable manual transmission configuration. It remains a stunningly honest preservation, with just one exterior repaint from new, while retaining all factory upholstery, trim, exterior rubbers, Securit glass, windshield with Agip decal, identification plaques, original undercoating, motor, drivetrain.. the list goes on.
Designed to compete with the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Muira, the Ghibli is among the elite in the vintage supercar market and tremendously underpriced in comparison. This particular SS checks all the boxes and is sure to satisfy the true driver-collector connoisseur and complete with original tool kit, jack and emergency equipment in case, manual, parts catalog, maintenance manual and original documentation. Representing incredible value, we strongly recommend serious attention from collectors and enthusiast alike.
Now in the UK Registration number MCU 373K.

Up for auction Bonham Jan 2019

“This definitive Ghibli with its ferocious four-nine engine has a great and extensive file of documentation which commences with copies of the factory delivery information from Maserati Classiche. Those papers confirm ‘2126’ to have been built to its superior mechanical specifications and being in the works in spring 1971. The completed car was finished as it is today in Giallo (yellow), with black interior and optioned with 5 speed transmission, power steering and air conditioning.
Ultimately it would arrive in the US in 1972, and although that first purchaser is not recorded, within the first few years of its life we know from the records on file that the car was handled by famed dealership Miller Motor Cars in Connecticut, the Giallo car being sold to a Mr. Edmund Bilhuber, of Summit, New Jersey, with a mileage of a mere 23,653 on the clock. Bilhuber would retain the car for many years, and its next owners are charted through to this day.
In the 2016, the car was repainted to the yellow livery it wore originally and considerable expenditure on detailing and making it reliably functional. Today, the car can show an accrued mileage of a whisker over 47,000 miles, which is supported not only by its documentation, but also the condition of its interior, which is unmistakably original and yet remains in remarkably good order for its 47-year life span. A sensitive balance of quality external aesthetics and well-preserved cabin has the effect of retaining the sensory experience of an old car when driving and the outward appeal of sparkling paint. ”

Documentation shows that this car, chassis 2152, was built on April 24, 1971. The first owner is not recorded, but ultimately, the car was sent to the U.S. to be delivered to its first owner in the state of Florida. This 4.9 SS Ghibli was originally painted with the exterior colour Celeste Chiaro (Light blue) over a white leather interior.
Inside of this Ghibli, remarkable visibility, fantastic seating position, and an easy entry allow for extreme driver’s comfort, along with the amenities of an adjustable steering wheel, adjustable seats, air conditioning, and electric windows. Mechanically, the car features independent front suspension, coil springs, double wishbone suspension, an anti-roll bar, rigid axle with radius arms, and 4-wheel hydraulic disk brakes.
Presented today in restored condition, this Ghibli wears a beautiful red exterior over beige leather interior. It’s unclear when this Ghibli was restored, but its handsome condition shows that the car has been well cared for since. More recently in 2017, the car was given a mechanical overhaul as outlined in invoices. Repairs included replacing the front control arms and ancillary suspension components, a fuel system cleaning which involved replacing the fuel lines, fuel pump, and a carburetor rebuild, new calipers and a brake system flush, and finally, an engine tuning. Although the Ghibli is propelled by a period correct 4.9 type engine just four digits off the original unit, it is not the original one to the car. Sold Amelia Island 2013. Video of the car.
