The Maserati Ghibli offered here, chassis AM1151346, was completed in September 1969, finished in *Avorio Chiaro (Light Ivory) over red leather, and delivered new to Barcelona, Spain. Consistent with its build date, this mid-production Ghibli is equipped with the 4.7-liter engine, five-speed ZF manual gearbox, and characteristic interior appointments including Veglia instruments, toggle switches, and Lucas signal stalk. Many enthusiasts regard this combination of features as the preferred specification for the model. While little is known of this car’s earliest history, it was imported into the US in the late 1970s and updated with typical American-market equipment including an MPH speedometer, wire wheels, a rectangular air box, rear bumper guards, side marker lights, and exhaust system. It was owned by a Southern California-based Maserati enthusiast for several decades and has spent the past few years confined to static storage. Except for older paint and upholstery in the original colors, the Ghibli is presented today in largely original, unrestored condition and appears to be a strong candidate for a comprehensive recommissioning or a sound basis for a complete restoration. Importantly, the car retains its original matching-numbers engine and is offered with a set of five original Campagnolo cast alloy wheels and assorted spares.

The vehicle: This beautiful 1970 Maserati Ghibli SS is on offer from a collection (VIN 115 49 1404). It is an original, unrestored vehicle. The last owner bought it from the first owner in Germany in 1982 and has since driven it a maximum of 500 km per year on Tenerife due to its extremely extensive collection. So the kilometers are absolutely authentic. Exterior:The vehicle is in very nice original condition. The design: Guigaro at its best. According to his own statement, the Ghibli is still his most beautiful design today. The line is sensational and doesn’t look a bit old after more than 50 years. Long bonnet, flowing lines, large windows, short stern: it is perhaps one of the most beautiful Gran Tursimo ever built. Interior: The interior is in top condition. It is very comfortable when you can handle the typical Italian “ergonomics”. So he drives:Fantastic. The Ghibli is a driver’s car of the purest water. The engine sounds more multifaceted than an Italian opera. He shoots unleashed and clearly plays the lead role in this drama-dominated piece. The driver is the conductor, he is happy about outstanding actors in the form of a precise gear shift and a comfortable and neutral chassis. It ran 274 km / h in the 1968 test, which was the absolute top league. But in contrast to the competition from Ferrari and Lamborghini, you didn’t have to be a pronounced masochist in the Ghibli if you wanted to go a little further away: It was and is quite suitable for long distances and masters long stages with flying colors. The driving qualities of the Ghibli leave us with a pitying thought to all the Ghibli that eke out their existence as an investment in the shadow of large collector’s garages.
