AM115.S.1179 AM115.S.1179 1970 Ghibli Spyder
US automatic
Italy

Chassis no. 1179 is one of the very desirable 125 factory-built spyders. According to information obtained from the Maserati factory, it was manufactured in September 1970 with the 4.7-litre engine, finished in Giallo over a black leather interior, and fitted with an automatic transmission. The car was delivered new to United States, in the Chicago, Illinois area.

This well-kept Maserati is showing just over 35,000 miles on the U.S. specification odometer, but an inspection shows great authenticity throughout. A sticker on the door reflects a service just a few hundred miles ago from noted Maserati Candini in Modena, an indication that this Ghibli has received excellent care. The Maserati was purchased by the consignor in 2015, with its two most recent custodians residing in Italy. With the immediate previous owner, the car was sent to Cremonini in Modena for a complete engine rebuild and some minor bodywork. While the factory information lists the car as originally delivered with an automatic transmission, a five-speed manual gearbox is presently installed, marking a desirable upgrade for sporty driving in true Maserati fashion.

AM115.49.1180 AM115.49.1180 1969 Ghibli
US automatic
Greece

Chassis 1180 was produced in 1969 as a Super Sport coupe for the US market to feature the 4. 9lt engine and the specially ordered comfort oriented 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission and ZF power steering. Its engine benefits from a revised cylinder head of upgraded camshafts, hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel use, single spark plug holes and easily tuned Weber 42 DCNF/ 11 carburettors. The interior options include Air Conditioner, favourable Veglia gauges, trademark toggle switches, dashboard clock, elegant wooden steering wheel with black small horn button, adjustable steering column with lock, reclining seats and tinted electric side and heated rear glass. The front turn signal lights are mounted in most desirable location of upper grille corners with thin over riders at the front and back.
In 1991 the Ghibli was imported in Europe and 7 years later became part of a private Maserati classic masterpieces collection. In 2015 it underwent a total restoration with preservation of the original interior trim. The two-year long process entailed a bare frame restoration of the body, an overhaul of the engine, transmission, suspension and brakes. It is currently offered with recent maintenance service and can be viewed by appointment.

“This Ghibli Spyder, chassis number ‘1183’, left the factory on 7th July 1970 and was delivered new to the USA. The car’s original colour scheme was Bianco Polo Park with Nero leather interior trim, and it left the factory equipped with the desirable ZF five-speed manual gearbox. Documents on file show that the Ghibli was registered in the Netherlands 22nd August 1996 and that it was imported into France by the official Maserati importer, Charles Pozzi, in June 2000. The Ghibli was sold to the current vendor on 27th April 2001 (bill of sale on file).
Offered from long-term private ownership of 20 years, the car has recently been mechanically re-commissioned with fresh fluids, new brake pads, engine tuning, etc. following a period of static display. A further shakedown is advised before enjoying this beautiful Ghibli Spyder’s breathtaking performance to the full.”

This 1969 Maserati Ghibli 4.7 Coupe is a stunning original matching numbers example just out of loving ownership. Red with blackleather interior. This Ghibli starts right up and drives excellent. A very clean car all around with a nice and straight body and solid undercarriage. Very nice paint and chrome. Mechanically strong and sounds great. Giorgio Giugiaro penned the spectacular Ghibli that debuted at the 1966 Turin Auto Show. The wedge shape and dynamic stance make for a car that is still thought by most to be the most beautiful post-war Maserati. Under the hood is a 4.7 liter DOHC V8 with four Webers stacked atop. The Ghibli was instantly the object of lust for enthusiasts. This breathtaking and highly collectable exotic is not to be missed.

The car did not leave the factory with a hard top, and originally had wire wheels. It was Rosso Cordoba (Dark Red) with leather colour Senape (Tan). Date of production was 13/07/1970 and destination was the USA. Documentation or paperwork has never been requested to Maserati Classiche in Italy which confirms that this car has been in hiding for many many years. The hard top is still a bonus to this car even though it probably comes from another Ghibli Spyder.

“This original 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder 5-Speed with factory hardtop is just out of 40 year loving ownership and care. Blue with ivory interior. One of only 125 produced ensuring that they would always be rare and desirable. These cars have become almost impossible to find. This particular example runs and drives well and has clearly been lovingly maintained throughout the years.”
