” I was in Switzerland, Davos, with my father when Mr Alfieri asked him if it was possible to lend the green Ghibl for the duration of the 1969 Geneva Motor show. They gave to him a blue Quattroporte for the time of the Motor Show and after he picked up a perfectly cleaned “as good as new” car! That amused him very much. About the green one, I remember a visit at the factory with my father about a braking problem of the car: he’d had a bad moment in the Passo Stelvio descent. Mr Alfieri said: ” Una Ghibli non è una machina di corsa!”. However, an upgrade was made. ”

Sold 2008

Maserati Ghibli Spyder.

Year: 1970.

Colour: Argento Auteil metalizzato.

Interior: Red leather.

A correct original Ghibli Spyder – not a conversion.
The car was delivered from the factory to the US market in 1970. It returned to Europe between 2008 and 2010 to a collector in Italy.
The car has undergone a complete conversion to European standards (head lamps, position lamps, speedometer, steering wheel, auto -> manual,).
The car received her original colour combination and a new interior (silver – Argento Auteil metalizzato 106 E1, on red leather – VM) correctly as it was delivered in 1970.
There is no rust on the car, the engine got a complete overhaul by Giuseppe Candini in Modena and everything (including A/C) works well.
I was able to purchase the car in 2012 and changed the soft top and made some cosmetical work.
We also serviced the engine here in Austria and I used the car frequently for private trips approx. for about 5.000 km’s in the last 8 years.
After the owner of the garage passed away I have had to leave the garage in Spring 2020 (where 8 cars are parked at the moment). So I have decided to sell 3 or 4 cars, to relocate to another smaller garage.
In consideration of the fact that next year I am 70 years old, I have to let go some of my cars especially cabriolets or spyders because I prefer to drive Coupes more and more.
If there is some prospective buyer I will provide photos directly to the interested party.
Car located Maria Enzersdorf – AUSTRIA.

Asking price 750,000 EURO.

We have a 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder 4.7 with only 31,049 miles on the clock. This particular Maserati Ghibli Spyder is one of only 125 Spyders built by Maserati themselves. This Ghibli Spyder has matching numbers and colours, which is just as good as the person who originally ordered the car managed to put a timeless vehicle together. Magnificent! Since it was first supplied in 1970 this Maserati Ghibli Spyder has only had 5 owners in total, as evidenced by the presence of the very extensive amount of documentation. The complete history of this Ghibli Spyder is known. The car comes with two fat files of paperwork with for instance copies of ownership papers, a Maserati certificate, various technical documents, correspondence and invoices. In the past this Ghibli was subjected to a top-class restoration and has remained in brilliant condition ever since. The Maserati Ghibli Spyder’s lovely original bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The”Argento Metalizzato” paintwork is similarly in great condition. The application of the re-spray was perfect and shows no signs of blemish what so ever. The car stands proudly on its lovely Borrani wire wheels. A new hood has recently been fitted and naturally is in excellent shape with a snug fit. Inside the car has lovely black carpets and black leather upholstery. The inside trim was also completely. refitted during the restoration and remains in splendid condition. The top of the dashboard is smooth, the fine looking instruments and controls are all in perfect working order. Your sojourn in the car is further enhanced by the presence of air-conditioning, power steering and headrests. Mechanically this Maserati also borders on perfection. This Maserati Ghibli Spyder has a 4.7 90 degree V8 engine developing 330 Ps at 6,600 revs, coupled to a manual ZF 5-speed gearbox. The V8 drives this Ghibli to a top speed of no less than 265 km/hr and all that in a 1970’s car! The perfectly smooth running engine is more than capable of giving this Ghibli Spyder all the necessary oomph. The precise action on the gearbox adds in no small measure to this Maserati’s driving pleasure. The suspension and brakes all have been perfectly maintained. This Maserati Ghibli Spyder is more than ready to be enjoyed in the coming summer months and for many summers to come. We highly recommend this brilliant piece of design from long ago. A very rare, well documented, Maserati Ghibli Spyder, aesthetically as well as mechanically in top-class condition!

According to Maserati S.p.A. Classiche, chassis no. 1158 was delivered on the 13th of November 1969 to Autosport di Scardovi D. and sold locally to Bruno Otello & Ing. Umberto Pederzoli S.p.A. in Castelmaggiore, Bologna, wearing Blue Pervinca paint over White Connoly leather with optional radio. Maserati Classic Department in Modena, Italy verifies all original build specifications and order with a true copy of the original Delivery Note, Internal Factory Order, Historical Information, Technical/Aesthetic Characteristics and The Certificate of Origin.

1158 shows and performs very well as a nice “driver quality” example and still retains its numbers matching 4 cam V8 with the correct Weber 40 DCNL5 carbs and the highly desirable 5-speed transmission. Being an “early Ghibli” the car is equipped with what is considered the better looking, sleeker small hubbed steering wheel, more reliable Lucas signal stalk and the desirable toggle switches instead of rockers. Bright and glossy, the paintwork shows well overall for its age, as does the upholstery and beautiful stainless exhaust exiting the rear. Period Becker Europa radio and Italian license plates enhance its presentation. The undercarriage and compartments appear tidy and appropriately aged. Additionally all lights, radio, power windows, and wipers are in good working order. A recent compression test showed consistent and average results of 175 PSI per cylinder.

This Ghibli 4.7 Coupe was delivered new to Paris, having been produced in June of 1969 and sporting a colour scheme of Blue Medio over a Black leather interior, which it wears today. It displays fewer than 65,000 km on its odometer, and as per a Bill of Sale on file, the car was acquired by Mr Petitjean in June of 1982 with just 64,000 km on its odometer. Based upon a service tag present in the engine bay from its year of acquisition, the Ghibli has travelled fewer than 40 km in the last 38 years, having spent most of its time in static storage. As a result, a mechanical recommissioning will be required in order to return the car to road use. An excellent candidate for a restoration, this Ghibli could return to its GT origins, with a European road trip the perfect reintroduction to the open road.

Sold RM Sothebys Amelia Island 2014.
Offered from the Pray Collection,
The Pray Collection’s Spyder was acquired by Malcolm S. Pray Jr. almost a decade earlier. It is finished in a rich red with comfortable brown leather upholstery, and it boasts such luxuries as air conditioning and a tastefully upgraded stereo, as well as the very favoured five-speed manual transmission—all ideal for an automobile which Mr. Pray intended for use in Florida. Accordingly, after his acquisition, the Maserati underwent extensive sorting, which included a complete rebuild of the original engine, performed by Roush, as well as a rebuild of the clutch assembly, adjustments to the fit of interior components, and a rebuild of the tachometer. The carburettors were also rebuilt. Typical of Mr. Pray’s devotion to record keeping, service and restoration records that cover his entire ownership accompany the car.

My father owned a Ghibli Spyder in approximately 1980-1981. It was a true Spyder (not chopped) and had the Boranni wire wheels. It was dark brown metallic, kind of a root beer colour, with tan hides, California registered, photos taken around same time [ automatic at that point in time ]

Chassis no. 1179 is one of the very desirable 125 factory-built spyders. According to information obtained from the Maserati factory, it was manufactured in September 1970 with the 4.7-litre engine, finished in Giallo over a black leather interior, and fitted with an automatic transmission. The car was delivered new to United States, in the Chicago, Illinois area.

This well-kept Maserati is showing just over 35,000 miles on the U.S. specification odometer, but an inspection shows great authenticity throughout. A sticker on the door reflects a service just a few hundred miles ago from noted Maserati Candini in Modena, an indication that this Ghibli has received excellent care. The Maserati was purchased by the consignor in 2015, with its two most recent custodians residing in Italy. With the immediate previous owner, the car was sent to Cremonini in Modena for a complete engine rebuild and some minor bodywork. While the factory information lists the car as originally delivered with an automatic transmission, a five-speed manual gearbox is presently installed, marking a desirable upgrade for sporty driving in true Maserati fashion.

Chassis 1180 was produced in 1969 as a Super Sport coupe for the US market to feature the 4. 9lt engine and the specially ordered comfort oriented 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission and ZF power steering. Its engine benefits from a revised cylinder head of upgraded camshafts, hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel use, single spark plug holes and easily tuned Weber 42 DCNF/ 11 carburettors. The interior options include Air Conditioner, favourable Veglia gauges, trademark toggle switches, dashboard clock, elegant wooden steering wheel with black small horn button, adjustable steering column with lock, reclining seats and tinted electric side and heated rear glass. The front turn signal lights are mounted in most desirable location of upper grille corners with thin over riders at the front and back.
In 1991 the Ghibli was imported in Europe and 7 years later became part of a private Maserati classic masterpieces collection. In 2015 it underwent a total restoration with preservation of the original interior trim.
