Bought car in Feb. 2025 at Artcurial auction in Paris. It came from an “important collection in Belgium”. Historical data is very low, nothing about past owners or works. The car is very original, only once painted. Automatic gearbox has been converted to manual 5-speed ZF during the 80s. Car is currently under full technical revision at a specialist in Bavaria, Germany.
Description from the auction
“This Ghibli, the 275th built, comes from one of the most important collections in Belgium. It was sold new in the United States with optional Borrani wheels, equipped with an automatic gearbox. It was converted to a ZF 5-speed manual gearbox by Lusso Service Holland in 1991. It was then completely repainted in its original Blu Sera color. The work was done to the highest standards, as it still retains its superb shine. Acquired in the early 2000s, it has received the ongoing maintenance dedicated to each car in the collection. A major overhaul was carried out in the collection’s mechanical workshops, with head gaskets replaced, cylinder heads machined, and the engine now running on unleaded fuel. The engine seals were reviewed, the cooling system refurbished, and many hoses replaced. The chrome trim is of very high quality. The black leather interior is in very good condition, with just a bit of patina, and is original. The dashboard is fitted with a Becker Grand Prix radio. The tires, dating from 2008, will need to be replaced. This beautiful Ghibli, with its highly desirable provenance, will be delivered with its tool kit and jack.”

The car was featured in the movie “La Piscine” (English title: “The Swimmingpool”). The car was then in the hands of the production company of that film and registered as 15-TY-75. In August 1968 the car was sold to a Mr. Real del Sarte. What happened then is unclear. Confirmed is that the car was scrapped in 2002. The engine survived and was sold separately.

“This 1968 Maserati Ghibli is stunning in its bright yellow livery with a black leather interior, the colors in which it was delivered when new by a California-based dealer to legendary entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr., its first owner. It has been comprehensively restored to better than new condition, earning it the award for Best Italian Sports Car at the 2001 Greenwich Concours. Today, the Ghibli remains stunning, with the paint, chrome, glass, rubber body seals and upholstery all as-new or better. In addition to the Campagnolo alloy wheels shod with high performance but period Avon tires, features include a Blaupunkt stereo system and a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission, which was a rare original option on the Ghibli”

As offered, the Ghibli is complete with a thick restoration binder containing many photos, as well as the original owner’s manual, a parts book and a letter from the Maserati Club confirming its famous first owner. Clearly, this former concours winner remains stunning and offers the opportunity to experience its stellar handling, blistering performance and user-friendly drivability.

Was originally owned by opera star Enzo Stuardi, who also owned many other cars. He sold the car to the second owner, a drug store chain owner named Joe Pernetti, who sold the car to Forza Motorsports. I got it on eBay 2009: def’n an impulse buy. The car needs some work, but it’s a solid, rust free example that I think will make a good driver, which is why I bought it. Was originally white/red but, and the story gets murky here, the car got painted blue, still with red interior. I’d never have changed the original color, but it’s a rare car that looks good in white, so since the car came in blue (my favorite color), I’m delighted

I bought this car 5 years ago from a Belgian collector and brought it to Germany. Failed down on my first trip (wanted to drive it from Brussels to Munich). I had it repainted once, the bonnet is completely redone and the engine has been reworked. The interior is the next thing to be done. I will never give this car away.
Confirmed Dec 2014

Previously sold at Bonhams 2008
Described back then as “This Ghibli Coupé was purchased by the current owner in October 2003 from Royal Automobile in La Baule, France immediately following extensive refurbishment, carried out by the vendor, which included a full engine rebuild. The latter involved fitting new pistons, valves, valve guides and timing chains; reconditioning the crankshaft; fitting new bearings; and overhauling the ignition system and carburettors. At the same time, the front suspension was overhauled and a stainless-steel exhaust system fitted. A desirable manual-transmission model fitted with five-speed ZF gearbox, the car also boasts air conditioning, although the latter is reported as in need of attention.
The car is offered with invoices relating to its purchase/restoration and subsequent maintenance; French Carte Grise; Contrôle Technique and Netherlands registration papers. ”
