Maserati Ghibli 4700

First registration 04.1968

Matching numbers and colour

Maserati Classiche certified

Swiss road registration with veteran entry

The Maserati Ghibli 4700 offered here was delivered in Italy in April 1968 in the colour Celeste Chiaro, sky blue, and Connolly nero (black) leather interior. In 2011, the car was sold to a Swiss collection, where it was completely dismantled, repainted and the interior totally restored. This beautiful Maserati Ghibli 4700 is matching numbers and colour, Maserati Classiche certified and is, with freshly revised brakes and veteran-tested, on new tires, in top maintained and original collector’s condition. The entire ownership history is documented.

My Ghibli is a AM 115-336, an early production car with a wrap-down trunk, radiator fans in front of radiator, dual plug motor, dual Girling brake boosters, no power steering, center spline knock-off Campagnolo alloy wheels and Becker Grand Prix radio. The vehicle is original and unrestored with 13.8k miles on the odometer.

The delivery documentation states this vehicle was displayed at the 1968 International Automobile Show in New York City. Modena has no information about the 1968 show and I am grateful if anyone has any knowledge of Maserati’s participation in that show. Also, I believe I am the second owner of the AM 115-336 but do not have any records of prior ownership. I appreciate any insight on this car’s life prior to my purchase in ’01.

France

Sold Artcurial Automobiles Luxe, Sport et Collection, Paris, Sunday, November 16, 2008.
The car presented was delivered by the French importer, M. Thépenier in Paris May 6th 1968 in this color combination, silver metallic and red carpets and leather, to a gentleman named M.Muschking. It is interesting to see that between 1967 and 1972, only 67 Ghiblis 4.7 coupes were imported thru the official importer. Among the client’s list, it shows Claude François, Karim Aga Khan, Jean Paul Belmondo and the Baron de Zuylen, son of the founder of the prestigious “Automobile club de France”.
The car is fitted with air conditioning, a stainless steel exhaust and recent major mechanical work has been carried out (cf. invoice folder by
Laurent Levasseur, at SRT in St Rémy sur Avre). In 2008 the brakes have been overhauled and between 2011 and 2015 the engine has been totally rebuilt for an amount close to 20000 €. The crankshaft went thru X-ray, the timing chains, timing pinions and tensioners, rod and main bearings, sleeves, pistons and rings are brand new. The Weber carburettors and the heads have been refurbished but still run on fuel plus additive. The engine needs to be broken in as it should be. Some time ago, the rocker panels have been replaced but the original floors are really rust free and the openings are well-fitted, although the paintwork would benefit from being redone. It is accompanied by a folder of invoices in addition to its French registration documents. The “Ghibli SS” script in the back is from a 4.9L.
