Sold July 2012. Red with black trim. Underwent restoration 2014-2015. Now freshly repainted. For Sale Gallery Aaldering 2019
Incredibly beautiful Maserati Ghibli 4.7 coupé. Delivered new by ABC motors of Tacoma, WA, USA in 1967. This a rare first series Ghibli, chassis 128 built in November 1967. The car has spent most of its life in California and is in 1999 sold to the Netherlands and in 2013 it was sold to Italy. This very early example is recognisable to its double front brake calipers, double thermostat, Drop Down tailgate, Smiths gauges, Marchal headlights, stainless steel trim on the dashboard and Borrani/Campagnolo wheels with central wheel lock. Performed in a ‘one-off’ colour combination ‘Avorio Santa Anita’ in combination with a beautiful ‘Pelle Nera’ interior. This colour was only available upon request. It seems to be that this is the only Ghibli ever made with this rare colour. This example is fully restored and technically overhauled in 2014-2015. Also the gearbox, suspension etc. are renewed/overhauled. This was a full bare metal restoration that was carried out here in Europe. Of course is this process well documented with more than 400 photos. The car is back into its original condition and is really fantastic! The car drives great and handles perfect! The body is rock solid, extremely straight and has a fantastic paint job. All the panel fittings are like they should be, perfect! The undercarriage is completely free of rust, rock solid and very original. The car still has her original so ‘’Matching Numbers’ engine. Of course certified by Maserati Classiche. A First series Ghibli in an unbelievably rare colour scheme and in a TOP restored condition! Unique!
Here's a link to a great story on the restoration.

Pictures of the restoration
Concours restoration now complete

This early Maserati Ghibli (no. 66 of 1170 Ghibli coupés produced) left Italy via Genova in November 1967. It was delivered shortly after to Foreign Car City inc., Route 59, West Nyack, New York.

The car was finished in the rare but striking combination of Bianco Polo Park with a black leather interior and chrome wire wheels.

The second owner, Mr Bob Carr, cherished the Ghibli and would hold on to it for 37 years until his demise in 2006. His widow, ms. Donna Carr Roberts has nothing but fond memories of the Maserati, but she had to let it go in that same year.

The Ghibli would go on to stay in Indiana as it was purchased by Bill O., founder of a well-known online review site, internet millionaire and colourful figure overall. Although the car was in a perfect original condition, Mr O. decided to commission a complete restoration of the car with Healy Werks in Lawton, Iowa, asking they make it better than new.

What would follow is a classic but mind-boggling case of a restoration project gone wild. The people at Healey Werks must have literally taken every nut and bolt apart and put it under a magnifying glass because at a certain point they had amassed a whopping 1 million (!) dollars in staff-hours and parts. The car was not even assembled yet, and the body was painted but still on a rotisserie. Plenty of photos are available today of their meticulous work.

The project was bought by a Belgian civil engineer, and former airline pilot turned classic car dealer, in early 2016. He tells us the story of how he and his wife embarked on a trip to Iowa where they spent several days packing all the shiny overhauled and recommissioned parts of the Ghibli in thousands of little plastic bags before shipping them together with the freshly painted body in a container to Belgium. Together with his wife, he embarked on an eight-month journey, putting the giant puzzle back together. Hundreds of pictures document this restoration process.

The final result was breathtaking. The Ghibli is simply stunning in white with its original black interior carrying a lovely patina. It is a matching numbers engine/car and has the Maserati Classiche documents. The car's mechanics and body are better than new. Still, after such an extensive restoration, with every nut & bolt having been apart, the enthusiast amateur-restorer was afraid actually to test drive the car and proceeded to sell it in 2017.

The car remained in Belgium, joining an important Maserati Collection. The first thing the current owner did was take the car to Mistral Classics in Lauwe, Belgium. Several minor (but crucial) issues were discovered, confirming that the passionate amateur-restorer was probably right in being apprehensive of driving the car. Mistral Classics addressed the brakes and fuel lines, among some other issues, and once this was taken care of, the car was ready to really prove itself on the open road. This experience underlined once more the importance of having true specialists work on your classic Maserati.

Today the car has a Belgian registration and is driven regularly. Maintenance is done at regular intervals by Mistral Classics in Lauwe, Belgium. The car presents in an absolute concours condition.

"This car was brought to us shortly after the current owner took delivery of it. It had just come out of a lengthy restoration in the US, and the previous owner in Belgium did the final assembly. We inspected the car and took it through the first test miles after the nut & bolt restoration, revealing several minor issues that needed sorting. We improved the braking power by installing new brake lines and a new but original brake booster. Addressing these issues really took the restoration from 95% to 100%.
We passed the car through Belgian MOT and had it registered for the road. The car runs beautifully smooth with the 4.7 engine being very performant. Over the years we performed the usual maintenance. The current owner has enjoyed the car with great care and attention, using it only for country road drives in sunny weather, preserving the car's concours quality to an absolute maximum"

European delivery Ghibli with kilometer per hour speedometer, Euro side marker lights and no emission controls. VIN 154 152 makes this the 76th car built.
We have taken the car twice on a 500+ mile round trip to participate at the Concorso Italiano during car week in Monterey including driving across the stage in 2017 for the 50th anniversary of the Ghibli.
All original drivetrain and good compression in all cylinders. Mechanical service at JML Maserati specialist in Santa Barbara in 2019 included rebuilding the 4 Weber carburetors, new sparkplugs, fuel filter, fuse block cover, coolant hoses, rebuilt brake calipers and master cylinder, new clutch master cylinder, rebuild steering box, new brake boosters, new brake hoses, and some driveline components. Recently had the starter rebuilt and put in a new battery. The car starts, runs and drives very well. Pirelli tires look like new.
Please note this is not a 99 point show car, it is a condition 3 or 4 (“good” not excellent) weekend driver. Sometime along the way it was painted resale red, the original color appears to be medium blue. There are one or two small oil leaks at the front of the engine, these are gaskets that are difficult to replace without pulling the engine out of the car. The clutch has been replaced and is in good condition, although it may need adjustment, its difficult to put the car in reverse without shutting off the engine and then starting up again. The car has been in places that get snow before and has had minor rust and professional rust repair. There is no visible rust I can find now. No holes in the floorboards and the interior is original other than new carpet, seats are OK with no rips or tears but show some wear and the seat bottoms could use new foam rubber. The original radio is missing and I have not tried to make the heater work. The speedometer bounces around, typical for the old Smiths gauges.
This is a 54year old car and is sold with no warranty, bidders are encouraged to inspect the car in Ventura California. Seller will help with shipping arrangements as needed but the buyer is responsible for shipping cost. Don’t need any particular payment method or trades, just pay within 10 days. Please have the funds available when bidding. Please no ridiculous offers. Please email with any questions or additional photos of areas you would like to see. I don't have the eBay chat app and will look at loading it soon.
While responding to a couple of questions, I have added a couple of photos, the dashboard and the odometer which shows kilometers

It was on the cover of the mailer for the 2000 Concorso Italiano.

The former owner bought the Maserati in 2002 through eBay from an American from Needham, a suburb of Boston, located in the state of Massachusetts. He, too, had been infected with the Ghibli virus, witnessing his striking choice to pick up his brand new arrival in person. What followed was a flight to America. The car was driven from Needham to New York Harbour and transported to Europe from there.
Life on this side of the Atlantic has clearly done the Maserati well. A two-year restoration (2006 - 2008) of the coach, performed by renowned and recognised restorer Dijkhof in Achterveld, yielded more than a desired result. The likewise highly regarded specialist Italauto from Achterveld blew up the Ghibli subcutaneous new life, where the authenticity and originality of the car (fortunately) remained untouched. The 4.7 liter dry sump V8 engine positioned at an angle of 90 degrees is a jewel of a machine. All 335 horsepower works and sounds good. Like a real Maserati. Truly masterfully done.

For Sale Oct 2014

Built in the November of 1967, this particular Ghibli was in fact built for the U.S market. According to certification from Maserati, it was an automatic transmission car originally, which makes sense given the popularity of two pedals in the states.
In 2014, the car was sold and shipped to Spain. From there, it was eventually sold to the current owner based in Poland. It’s with this owner that things took a truly spectacular turn. Aware of the car’s significance, it was afforded a world-class restoration. The term ‘nut and bolt’ is one used frequently in the classic car world, but in the case of this Ghibli, the statement is true. Nothing has been missed. Nothing.
Yes the car is finished in its original and beautiful colour of Celeste Chiaro, however rather than keep everything absolutely standard, the current owner instead opted to build it to the specification it always should have been. The Borg Warner automatic has been removed, rebuilt and boxed, and has been replaced with a completely rebuilt ZF five-speed manual transmission.
This is, make no mistake, a staggeringly good restoration. Arguably, the car is better now than it was when new. Nothing has been missed, at all.
The car has been driven a mere 50km, on a private track, for running-in purposes. That’s it. In its current, reborn guise, it has yet to hit the road. That is a privilege that awaits the lucky winning bidder.

The Ghibli has chassis AM115.168 and engine no. AM115.168. In other word matching numbers. This handsome blue example was ordered 26th of October 1967 and delivered new via Maserati’s Modena workshop the 18th of December 1967 and was originally finished in Blue Pervinca (Salchi code 106A55) with white leather (Conolly code pac.1544), equipped with 5- speeds manual type ZF S5.325 transmission. The number of owners and history is well documented.

Body and interior
Body and interior restored in Padova, Italy in 2010. Since then it has been sparingly driven 25000 km on sunny days. It still feels as freshly restored. The paint is still perfect with a beautiful lustre that changes with the sun. The seats just got that nice look of just lived in and looks even better than when they were just restored. The unique dash and instruments looks as if they were new. The engine room is just freshly detailed to period standards, so also the underside of the car. (look at the pictures) It is probably one of the best driving Ghibli´s around. (Cars like to be driven not standing in museums).

At Le Mans 2002

Ordered new by Brussels Maserati dealer François Staumont on behalf of Mr. Théo Vercoutere in late 1967, a letter on file from Staumont to Maserati dated 28 November 1967 noted the car was destined for display at the Brussels Motor Show. Chassis 180 was delivered on 29 December, finished in Celeste Chiaro over Blu leather, and exhibited a few weeks later.
This Ghibli is believed to have had a second Belgian owner before being acquired by Peter Jansens in 1985. He retained the car for two years and then sold it to Bruun van Leeuwen, via Kroymans. Under Jansens’ care, the car is said to have had rust repairs and a respray.
Mr. Leeuwen owned this Ghibli until 1999, and the work he and other owners carried out is noted in a document on file. The Maserati changed hands twice more before being acquired by the consigning owner in November 2011, who commissioned a restoration by Roda Classica in 2016; invoices detailing the works are available to view on file.
Today, this Ghibli retains its matching-numbers 4.7-litre V-8 engine, and is finished in its factory-correct body colour of Celeste Chiaro. The interior has been re-finished in an attractive Senape leather. With period motor show provenance and known ownership history, this Ghibli would make a wonderful acquisition any admirer of Italian classics
