Sold 2013
sold new and registered in France, in Paris, on 26 June 1968 with a registration number of 4446 XV 75, which it still has.
First Owner: Mr BESSIN
Colour: Blue Notte / Molitan RS 04 (Bordeaux)
Purchased by the father of the current owner on May 17, 1976, the car was maintained regularly and carefully by Officine Alfieri Maserati SpA in Modena, which is to be seen by the various invoices and record sheets. Since when the car was passed on to the son and current owner, the car joined the latter?s collection and was registered in his name on November 18, 1987. It is interesting to note in the record that the car was exhibited in the September 1988 edition of the Bagatelle Concours d’Elegance, in the same category as an Aston Martin DB4GT, a Ferrari 250 Lusso and the Ferrari 365 P “Tre Posti”. The car was presented as an “effective competitor to the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona.”

Here’s the cars description at Artcurial

This manual transmission Ghibli was delivered new to France and first registered in Paris on 26th June 1968, passing in 1976 to a Parisian family with whom it remained until 2012, regularly maintained by Officine Alfieri Maserati SpA in Modena, Italy. The accompanying certificate issued by Maserati Classiche reveals that the Ghibli was originally finished in Blue Medio (Mid-Blue) with Bordeaux leather interior and Borrani wire wheels.

Our vendor purchased the Ghibli at a French auction in October 2013 at 66,030 kilometres (purchase invoice on file). Since then the car has undergone a most extensive restoration to concours standard with no expense spared, carried out by the renowned UK-based marque specialists McGrath Maserati, whose numerous detailed bills and comprehensive restoration photographic record are on file (perusal highly recommended). Completed in 2022 (at 69,502 kilometres), the renovation included a bodywork restoration, engine rebuild, engine bay refurbishment, carburettor rebuild, cooling system rebuild, and an overhaul of the steering and suspension. The original interior was found to be in excellent condition so was retained. As well as the aforementioned bills and photographs, etc, the car also comes with a UK V5C Registration Certificate. Representing an exciting opportunity to own one of the 1960s most iconic supercars, comprehensively restored to concours condition by the best in the business, this gorgeous Maserati Ghibli wants for nothing but an enthusiastic new owner.

Very neat Maserati Ghibli 4700 Series 1 Bj. 03/1968 from the coveted first series (ZV rims) with the rare options of automatic and air conditioning.
The vehicle was extensively restored until 2016 and is therefore optically and technically in very good condition, with a rating of 2+ according to the classic car report. The offer price is well below the replacement value determined in the report. The original parts have largely been preserved and have only been technically renewed. Some parts have been replaced, for example the complete axle bearings and wearing parts, the tires, all rubbers, the brakes, the battery, etc. The TÜV acceptance was free of defects.

The car works great and is easy to drive thanks to the rare automatic gearbox. The body has been completely restored, the gaps are better than the original.
The Maserati was repainted in the original individual paintwork. The vehicle is of course absolutely rust-free.
The engine was completely revised approx. 4,700 km ago and a replacement gearbox was installed approx. 1,500 km ago (after the report was drawn up), which of course means a significant increase in value. The overhaul was carried out in a Maserati specialist workshop. Essentially, the crankshaft, all bearings, the pistons with liners, the valves, etc. were renewed, everything except the housing. An electronic ignition was also installed in this train.
