This 1967 Maserati Ghibli is one of 1,170 coupes produced and was sold new in Milan, Italy before being imported to the US, where it resided in Arizona from the late-1970s until the previous owner’s acquisition in the 1990s. The car was purchased as a project in 2001 by the seller, a mechanical engineer and road racer whose company, Vintage Exotics Competition Engineering, subsequently completed a cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Power is from the numbers-matching 4.7L quad-cam V8, which was rebuilt in 1989 and stored in a crate until being installed during the restoration. A replacement five-speed manual transmission was sourced for the project, and additional work included a repaint in Giallo Fly, overhauling the differential, refreshing the black leather interior, and repairing the electrical system. Since completion of the restoration, this Tipo AM115 has been shown at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Concorso Italiano, and Palm Springs Concours d’Elegance. It is now offered in Tucson with a Maserati Certificate of Origin, photos and documents from the restoration, owner’s and service manuals, a tool kit, and a clean Arizona title.

Feature car in Hemmings Sports and Exotic car 2008 article. Confirmed 2014.

While not much is known about the car’s early history, it is said to retain its matching-numbers engine and original five-speed manual transmission. Following a restoration by Bob Smith Coachworks in Gainesville, Texas, in 2000, the car remains in excellent condition to this day, clearly having been well maintained and preserved ever since. Fitted with a Blaupunkt radio with modern Pioneer speakers, the car is finished in a fetching color combination of black over a light grey interior, which was applied during its restoration. Its consignor notes that it is an absolute joy to drive and would certainly please the most discerning of collectors.

I bought this car 5 years ago from a Belgian collector and brought it to Germany. Failed down on my first trip (wanted to drive it from Brussels to Munich). I had it repainted once, the bonnet is completely redone and the engine has been reworked. The interior is the next thing to be done. I will never give this car away.

Previously sold at Bonhams 2008
Described back then as "This Ghibli Coupé was purchased by the current owner in October 2003 from Royal Automobile in La Baule, France immediately following extensive refurbishment, carried out by the vendor, which included a full engine rebuild. The latter involved fitting new pistons, valves, valve guides and timing chains; reconditioning the crankshaft; fitting new bearings; and overhauling the ignition system and carburettors. At the same time, the front suspension was overhauled and a stainless-steel exhaust system fitted. A desirable manual-transmission model fitted with five-speed ZF gearbox, the car also boasts air conditioning, although the latter is reported as in need of attention.
The car is offered with invoices relating to its purchase/restoration and subsequent maintenance; French Carte Grise; Contrôle Technique and Netherlands registration papers. "

At Le Mans 2002

Ordered new by Brussels Maserati dealer François Staumont on behalf of Mr. Théo Vercoutere in late 1967, a letter on file from Staumont to Maserati dated 28 November 1967 noted the car was destined for display at the Brussels Motor Show. Chassis 180 was delivered on 29 December, finished in Celeste Chiaro over Blu leather, and exhibited a few weeks later.
This Ghibli is believed to have had a second Belgian owner before being acquired by Peter Jansens in 1985. He retained the car for two years and then sold it to Bruun van Leeuwen, via Kroymans. Under Jansens’ care, the car is said to have had rust repairs and a respray.
Mr. Leeuwen owned this Ghibli until 1999, and the work he and other owners carried out is noted in a document on file. The Maserati changed hands twice more before being acquired by the consigning owner in November 2011, who commissioned a restoration by Roda Classica in 2016; invoices detailing the works are available to view on file.
Today, this Ghibli retains its matching-numbers 4.7-litre V-8 engine, and is finished in its factory-correct body colour of Celeste Chiaro. The interior has been re-finished in an attractive Senape leather. With period motor show provenance and known ownership history, this Ghibli would make a wonderful acquisition any admirer of Italian classics
