Not sold at auction 2007.
Supplied new in February 1971 to a client in the wealthy shipping port of Livorno in Tuscany, Italy, this Ghibli represents the model in its ultimate form, with 4.9-litre ‘SS’ engine and five-speed manual gearbox, and has had only two recorded owners. Finished in its original Blu Pervinca Metalizzato (metallic peacock blue) with cream leather interior, the car has spent all its life in its home country and is presented in very good condition in every respect. It is offered with bills for work carried out by various well known specialists, Italian libretto and valid roadworthiness certificate (last carried out on 26/3/2007).
Maserati Classiche confirms that this left-hand drive Ghibli SS was supplied new in February 1971 to the Society HURT SpA in Arco, Vicenza, Italy. It was originally finished in Blu Pervinca (Periwinkle Blue) with a white Connolly hide interior. The car remained in Italy, although the history from that time is limited. At some point it was registered in Florence, and a copy of the Italian registration document from that time is on file. Also on file is the ASI certificate from 2003, which establishes that the Ghibli is original and has matching numbers.

The current owner bought the car around 2007 in Italy and imported it into the UK. From then onwards it has been serviced by renowned marque specialists McGrath Maserati, for which there are extensive bills on file for mechanical work and routine servicing. In 2010, the Ghibli was displayed at the Salon Privé at the Hurlingham Club, but mostly it has been used sparingly.
In 2012 an interior re-trim was carried out in cream hide, and in 2014 a body restoration was started by McGrath Maserati and their bodywork partner, Prestige Restorations. The resulting works included fitting new sills inside and out, new door skins and frame repairs, and other minor repairs to what was otherwise a good bodyshell. After this, the body was stripped back to bare metal and repainted in the original Blu Pervinca (bills on file). Fresh from this restoration and fully fettled by McGrath, this superb car is now offered for sale by the deceased owner’s executors.

The car’s first owner specified a brilliant car. This Maserati Ghibli SS Coupé has an “Oro Kelso” (gold, code:2463214) finish with a “Senape” (tan, Connolly, code: PAC.1775) interior trim. The car looks absolutely great. Its external look is complimented by the welded Borrani Dial rims and Ansa exhaust. The Giorgetto Giugiaro designed bodywork is in fine condition with nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The “Oro Kelso” paintwork has been res-prayed for cosmetic reasons and is in very nice condition with only minor blemishes. The brightwork is also very good. The original interior trim is a feast for the eyes. The carpets are neat and the leather is supple with a few light patches of wear, that only add to the car’s allure. All switches and instruments are in very good condition and working order. The interior condition is commiserate with the car’s low mileage. Mechanically this Ghibli SS also has enjoyed splendid maintenance.

This 4.9-litre Ghibli coupé was delivered new to its first owner in Italy where it remained until being sold to Germany in 2014 having had three owners by that time. It is equipped with the ZF five-speed manual gearbox, air conditioning and power steering, and is finished in red with a beautiful light beige leather interior, the latter retaining its original wood-rim steering wheel. Repainted some years ago (from yellow) and re-trimmed in 2000, the car is said to be otherwise original, driving well with a strong engine (freshly inspected) and reliable gearbox. It comes with an owner’s manual and Italian registration papers.

Built in February 1971 and supplied by the factory to its first owner Mr Bompani of Modena, registered MO 243630 and converted to factory spyder specification in period in Italy. Subsequently sold to Germany in the late 1970s and imported into the UK in 1988 by Mr. John Cigarini of London, who cherished and kept the car through to 1993 when it was sold to Mr Richard Howard of Reading before being sold in 2000 to Mr Simon Brand who kept the car through to 2014. Miscellaneous work was carried out over the years by Bill McGrath and others and more recently the car has been subject to much expenditure including a full engine rebuild by respected marque specialist Mike Jones.
All electrical systems work as they should and the rebuild includes much work to replace the steering column switches correctly, together with re installing the factory air conditioning.
A partial retrim has been carried out by the Trim Centre to include new wool carpets. Finished in its original colour scheme of red with a contrasting black hide interior and black hood and with its original matching numbers engine; the owner confirms that the engine is in excellent order and the body, chassis, interior, transmission and paint are reported to be in good order.
