While any Ghibli might therefore be seen as a representative of what it stood for, a spear for Italian automotive style, craftsmanship and Italy’s dynamic place in the world during that cherished era, the Ghibli we present here is nothing less than the very tip of the spear’s blade: it is the officially recognized oldest surviving Ghibli, chassis number AM115*010* with matching engine number AM115*010* which has outlasted the four built before it, and can stand proud of its 49 years of life. Here it is coming up for auction

With only 23,900 miles from new, this incredibly exciting find has been under the same family’s ownership since new and has never been restored. This matching numbers car comes accompanied by its original tool kit and wears an extremely rare and desirable color combination silver with red leather interior. It’s not everyday that you find a such an honest and beautifully original low mileage Ghibli with matching numbers. This un-restored car has a wonderful patina to it inside and out. The opportunity to acquire such a fantastic car is an absolute privilege and should not be missed by any true collector or enthusiast. ” Chassis No: AM 115 042 – 23k original miles “Previous owner and member of the family who owned the car for nearly fifty years, Mr J. Frampton: ” The car has been in my family for many years. My grandfather Frederick Tecce has owned the car going back until 1972, I believe. I don’t believe that he purchased the car new. When he passed away in 1999, my uncle, Fred Tecce, inherited the car. I purchased the car in 2004 from my uncle. I believe the title was still in my grandfather’s name at that time. Since the serial number is 115 042, I believe it is an early model. 1966 or 1967. The bumpers were re-chromed. And the transmission was rebuilt. The radiator and cooling fans were redone. I will always love that car. Since I was a child, it has been in my family. ”

This car was originally owned by Wilt Chamberlain. Standing 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) tall, he played center in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 14 seasons and is widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest players. Wilt Chamberlain fitted a smaller steering wheel to the car, this was still on the car in 1988 Photo by Warren Inglese; Excerpt from The Journal News, Week of August 14-20, 1967 WILL HE FIT? Wilt Chamberlain, 7-foot-plus professional basketball great, looked over a shining new Maserati and then bought the car this week at Foreign Cars of Rockland in West Nyack. Bob Grossman, president of Foreign Cars and well-known sports car racing driver was present at the sale and posed for a photograph with Chamberlain. Chamberlain was the first big earner of basketball; upon entering the NBA, he immediately became the highest-paid player. Chamberlain was basketball’s first player to earn at least $100,000 a year; and he earned an unprecedented $1.5 million during his Lakers years. As a Philadelphia 76er, he could afford to rent a New York apartment and commute to Philadelphia. He would often stay out late into the night and wake up at noon. Following his death in 1999, Chamberlain’s estate was valued at $25 million. [ from Wikipedia ]
