Delivered new with silver paint and a black leather interior to its first owner in Rome, Italia. Some years after, sold to its next owner, an American, who imported the car to Texas. The car was then sold to a Canadian collector with 42000 kms from new, in perfect original condition, and then the Canadian owner decided in 2002 to have “the best Ghibli Spyder in the world” and restored the car TOTALLY to concours condition, regardless of expense. Today [ 2013 ] the car has 48800 kms from new, Borranis wheels, power steering, Concours condition. Previously sold by GTC Coming up for auction at RM Sotheby 2023 Retromobile Destined to remain in its native Italy when new, the Ghibli 4.7 Spyder presented here was shipped to Rome following its completion at Maserati’s facilities in Modena in February of 1970. Finished in Giallo over a black leather interior, it is one of only 83 production 4.7-litre Ghibli Spyders—and one of a mere 25 examples built to left-hand-drive specification, fitted with a manual gearbox, and delivered new to Europe. Comments from Gerhard Reinecke "there is a letter from Cozza dated 2007, in which he describes the first owner as Mr Caminneci from Berlin. Caminneci was a film producer (but mainly, he was heir to a large fortune), married to Pia Degermark, a Danish film star at the time. They lived together in Switzerland, in the village where I grew up. When he drove up the hill in this Ghibli, next to our school, all the boys used to run at the window to see (and hear) him. The Ghibli was registered in Rome, with Roma number plates, while he also had a 6.3 Mercedes with telephone (!), on Berlin number plates. Later, when Pia Degermark left him, he stayed on in Switzerland, the Ghibli stayed with him. Originally yellow (as now), he had it painted black with golden wheels (the JPS craze at the time). He kept it at least until early or even mid 80ies, when he hit something with the door, the door had a huge dent in it, he still drove it for a while. He sold it for 8000 francs, even then a real bargain. Caminneci (Pier A.) lived until 2013, as far as I know still in Switzerland, near St. Moritz. Unfortunately, at one time they changed the original wheels which were designed by Giuigiaro specifically for the Ghibli. I remember the car with the original wheels, and I do remember, noticing the Marlboro packet on the tray in the centre console of the parked car."

Here's the car on Ivan's website This gorgeous 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder with factory 5-speed is a matching numbers example and one of just 125 factory original Ghibli Spyders produced. Equipped with Borrani wire wheels, original 5-speed, and power steering. A cosmetic restoration was performed in 2015 consisting of new Argento Auteuil paint, deep red leather interior by Bridge of Weir Leather Co, Wilton carpeting, and correct leather on dash fascia. New black soft-top canvas convertible top. During this time, all aluminum and chrome trim was replated and polished as well. Body panels have excellent fit and glass is original and in very good condition. Optional chrome wire wheels are present and excellent, with new Michelin XWX tires. Convertible top is nicely done, fits well and in good condition. The Ghibli runs and drives superb. The 4.7 liter engine sounds and runs excellent with very good compression and oil pressure. This is a late series Ghibli with the desirable 42DCNF Webers and late style brake booster and interior layout. The ZF 5-speed gearbox shifts well with clutch and synchros working properly. The suspension has new bushings and the brakes pads have plenty of life. The optional power steering is a must on the Ghibli and makes it much easier to drive at low speeds. Overall the engine compartment is detailed and excellent with proper Jubilee stainless steel hose clamps used throughout. These cars have become almost impossible to find and this particular example has clearly been lovingly maintained. Chassis #AM115S 1081

For Sale at the Gallery Aadering We have a 1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder 4.7 with only 31,049 miles on the clock. This particular Maserati Ghibli Spyder is one of only 125 Spyders built by Maserati themselves. This Ghibli Spyder has matching numbers and colours, which is just as good as the person who originally ordered the car managed to put a timeless vehicle together. Magnificent! Since it was first supplied in 1970 this Maserati Ghibli Spyder has only had 5 owners in total, as evidenced by the presence of the very extensive amount of documentation. The complete history of this Ghibli Spyder is known. The car comes with two fat files of paperwork with for instance copies of ownership papers, a Maserati certificate, various technical documents, correspondence and invoices. In the past this Ghibli was subjected to a top-class restoration and has remained in brilliant condition ever since. The Maserati Ghibli Spyder’s lovely original bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The"Argento Metalizzato" paintwork is similarly in great condition. The application of the re-spray was perfect and shows no signs of blemish what so ever. The car stands proudly on its lovely Borrani wire wheels. A new hood has recently been fitted and naturally is in excellent shape with a snug fit. Inside the car has lovely black carpets and black leather upholstery. The inside trim was also completely. refitted during the restoration and remains in splendid condition. The top of the dashboard is smooth, the fine looking instruments and controls are all in perfect working order. Your sojourn in the car is further enhanced by the presence of air-conditioning, power steering and headrests. Mechanically this Maserati also borders on perfection. This Maserati Ghibli Spyder has a 4.7 90 degree V8 engine developing 330 Ps at 6,600 revs, coupled to a manual ZF 5-speed gearbox. The V8 drives this Ghibli to a top speed of no less than 265 km/hr and all that in a 1970’s car! The perfectly smooth running engine is more than capable of giving this Ghibli Spyder all the necessary oomph. The precise action on the gearbox adds in no small measure to this Maserati’s driving pleasure. The suspension and brakes all have been perfectly maintained. This Maserati Ghibli Spyder is more than ready to be enjoyed in the coming summer months and for many summers to come. We highly recommend this brilliant piece of design from long ago. A very rare, well documented, Maserati Ghibli Spyder, aesthetically as well as mechanically in top-class condition!

Sold RM Sothebys Amelia Island 2014. My father owned a Ghibli Spyder in approximately 1980-1981. It was a true Spyder (not chopped) and had the Boranni wire wheels. It was dark brown metallic, kind of a root beer colour, with tan hides, California registered, photos taken around same time [ automatic at that point in time ]

Chassis no. 1179 is one of the very desirable 125 factory-built spyders. According to information obtained from the Maserati factory, it was manufactured in September 1970 with the 4.7-litre engine, finished in Giallo over a black leather interior, and fitted with an automatic transmission. The car was delivered new to United States, in the Chicago, Illinois area. This well-kept Maserati is showing just over 35,000 miles on the U.S. specification odometer, but an inspection shows great authenticity throughout. A sticker on the door reflects a service just a few hundred miles ago from noted Maserati Candini in Modena, an indication that this Ghibli has received excellent care. The Maserati was purchased by the consignor in 2015, with its two most recent custodians residing in Italy. With the immediate previous owner, the car was sent to Cremonini in Modena for a complete engine rebuild and some minor bodywork. While the factory information lists the car as originally delivered with an automatic transmission, a five-speed manual gearbox is presently installed, marking a desirable upgrade for sporty driving in true Maserati fashion.
