The car was delivered new to an Italian Count who later visited Bulgaria. He met a German girl from the DDR and fell in love with her. While on a trip with her around in Bulgaria the couple had an accident with the Ghibli. The Count had to leave Bulgaria on the spot and left the Ghibli behind (…and the girl! …).

As Fabio Collina, the director of Maserati’s historical archives, confirmed, this Ghibli Spyder is a very fine example which was supplied new in West Nyack in New York State on 6 April 1970. The car was already finished in its current ‘nero’ (black) paintwork with a ‘senape’ (beige) leather interior. The current owner bought this superb Ghibli Spyder in 2013 to add it to his already extensive collection, which included many top-notch Italian cars and English models, in particular from Aston Martin. As soon as he bought it, he commissioned Cecil Cars to thoroughly overhaul the electrical system, including stripping out the dashboard, repair the suspension and fuel pump, and completely refurbish the interior. 52,000 € was spent to make this Spyder, of which fewer than 100 4.7-litre models were built, a real gem

Painted and restored by the famous Junior’s House of Color in California, this 1969 Maserati Ghibli 4.7 is one of just over 1,100 examples produced, and is perhaps the best condition Ghibli available on the market. Purchased by the current family ownership in 1971, the car was shipped from the Italian previous ownership to California where it spent the majority of its life. Beginning in 2002, the car began its 8 year long complete frame off restoration process. No expense was spared in this process, with billing totaling over $400,000. Powering the car are the numbers matching engine and manual gearbox, which have both been gone through during the process. Outside, the car is painted in the correct color code “Oro Metallizzato” (Metallic Gold) and looks incredible. The “Fuse” Campagnolo wheels are correct as well, and currently wear period style Avon radial tires. The interior shows just as nicely with the “White” Connoly leather seats, door cards and rear hatch surrounding areas. The black dash and carpet appear to be in excellent condition as well, and the wooden steering wheel is the perfect touch to complete the beautiful looks inside the car. All gauges, switches and the radio appear to be in top shape, and the car currently shows 50,787km on the odometer. It is estimated that just about 100 miles have been put on the car since the completion of the restoration process, with meticulous care and service completed at Restoration and Performance Motorcars in Vermont. Included with the car are files detailing some of the restoration work as well as upkeep services in the most recent years.
