The car we are offering is a fantastic Ghibli SS; a variant only offered in the final year of production. The car is one of just 12 original RHD manufactered by Maserati and is a full matching numbers example.
Finished in the original colour combination of Rosso Fuoco with Nero hide, the car is complemented with an extensive history file, including a certificate of origin from the factory and delivery notes and data sheet. Further, the car was owned by rock royalty, Adam Clayton from U2, who had the car for a number of years until 2000.
Showing just 36,000 miles, this SS is in absolutely fantastic overall condition and benefits from factory specified alloy wheels and electric windows. The Ghibli is one of the most beautiful and successful Maseratis to be produced, with this SS RHD example one of the finest available today.

Registered to Citroen Cars (Maserati Division) in June 1972, Model code Tipo AM115 was one of only 13 right hand drive versions delivered to the UK and by December 11th a new owner was enjoying the V8 audio around the lanes of Cheshire. The immense history file confirms it went on to spend time in Kent, Salisbury, Cumbria and West London. A desirable specification that enjoyed both manual selection and power steering, finished in its original yellow hue this Ghibli shows just 34,413 miles which we believe to be correct. History file offers invoices from 1999, at this time the mileage was recorded at 31,551. In January 2020 Bill McGrath Maserati rebuilt the carbs, fitted new clutch master and slave cylinders and replaced front wheel bearings. A full engine rebuild totalling over £15k was also undertaken by Bill McGrath and completed in November 2001 @ 31,614 miles. Whilst the gearbox enjoyed the same attention in March 2006. The current custodian took the reins August 2008 and requested a full inspection and report from McGrath in the November @ 32186 miles resulting in brake calipers being restored plus rear axle and propshaft overhauls the following April. Work continued throughout 09 and into 2010 where every aspect of this Maserati was considered including a refurb of the beautiful Campagnolo rims … a total of £22500.00 outlay. Ferrari Specialists SMDG took charge over the next couple of years before the Ghibli came to Country Classic Cars December 2018 @ 33948 miles at which time a carb overhaul and full service were carried out; it has covered less than 500 miles since. Mot history/ certificates are available from 2003 whilst the current V5 shows just 4 previous keepers.

This Ghibli was sold new in Italy. The car is believed to have had only 2 owners from new. A restoration, meeting the highest standards, was performed in Germany 2015. It was painted in its original color “Medio Blue”. Also in the interior has been completely re-trimmed in Tan. This color combination is just gorgeous. Of course this Ghibli is a matching numbers. The car comes with its original owner’s manual.

The car was delivered on 27.9.72 to Mr. Danial Moussa, 1261 Loma Vista Drive, Beverly Hills in “Argento Augeuil”, black leather and Borrani spoked.

In 1977 the car came to an internist, Mr. Eugene Boston for 34 years, also living and practising in Los Angeles.
Owner for the last ten years was Mr. Andrew Slater, active in film and music business (stated on the “Title”)
So, the car was never painted (as we could see stripping it down, see 2 pictures), silver is the original colour and it never left Los Angeles in 49 years!

This 1972 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS has been in California at least since 1977. This car is a USA model. We just pulled it from a long time storage where it was stored since 2011. The previous California owner had the car for 34 years. The car is listed in the Maserati Ghibli Registry. This car has factory AC and power steering. Seems to have one silver repaint over the “Azzurro Artico” blue – green metallic paint. The paint has peeled off in some places over the hood and the front end. The car appears to be completely rust free except for 2 spots on each door. The floors are superb. The black interior appears all original, the only sign of wear is the faded rear area carpet. We have made no attempt to start the engine, the car is exactly as found from the storage. We have a clear title and one set of keys. The jack and spare tire are in the trunk. The original wire wheels have some surface rust on the hubs and the rims. The wheels are very restorable. The brakes appear to be working. There are no leaks. All glass is good.
The bumpers have some minor pitting on the bumper guards.
This car is a superb cosmetic restoration candidate, it requires a new paint, some rechroming and perhaps some mechanical refreshing such as carburetor rebuild etc.

According to the records of the Maserati factory, chassis number 2492 was built in September 1972, making it among the later Ghibli examples to be produced. As such, the car benefits from the steady developments made during the course of production and is equipped with desirable late-model components, such as Veglia gauges, dashboard rocker switches, and a Bonaldi brake booster. This car was factory equipped with power steering and an automatic transmission and originally finished in Colorado Brown Metallic paint and trimmed with a senape leather interior. The Ghibli was distributed to Grossman Motorcars in the United States and sold new to an executive at Universal Studios in Burbank, California.
The Maserati was owned in the 1990s by John Mood before it passed to Ralph Paul Inc. in Wilmington, Delaware, which soon sold the car to a local councilman. In 2002, the coupe was acquired by the consignor, who had long been searching for a high-quality Ghibli to add to his collection. The Maserati had recently undergone an interior restoration with light-cream Connolly leather, and the owner decided to continue on that path with a greater sympathetic restoration.
The fuel system, original Girling brake calipers, suspension, and cooling and electrical systems were all carefully rebuilt or refreshed as needed, and the air conditioner received a new compressor. The carburetors were disassembled and refurbished, including an ultrasonic cleaning, rebuild, and tuning set-up. The consignor also opted to undertake a few tasteful upgrades, including the installation of shoulder harness safety belts and an electronic ignition for superior starting ability. Perhaps most importantly, the factory-issued automatic transmission, which has long been regarded as a poor means of transferring power from the prodigious V-8 engine, was replaced with a ZF five-speed manual gearbox, making the SS a far crisper performer than it was fresh off the assembly line. Cosmetically, the brightwork was re-chromed, and the exterior was refinished with a high-quality bare-metal repaint in black, resulting in a very elegant color scheme.
This outstanding Ghibli currently displays approximately 34,250 miles, which the consignor believes to be original, and is accompanied by its original jack, owner’s manuals, restoration invoices, and a correct reproduction toolkit and custom-made pouch. It abounds in beautiful details, like the chromed fender vents, and period features like the Becker Europa radio and Michelin XWX tires. Believed to retain its original matching-numbers V-8, this Maserati promises to reward future ownership with its luxurious and powerful performance. Was bought from USA to Finland, fully restored in Finland, then sold back to USA in around 2008.

A rare factory right hand drive car that has spent majority of its life in Australia. Interestingly the car is also fitted with the rare automatic transmission. The car is matching numbers and finished in its original colour scheme as confirmed by Maserati Classiche. From Maserati Classiche “The Maserati Ghibli chassis #AM1152496 was originally produced with a 4.7 litre / Carburettors engine, Automatic gearbox, RHD version (It is not the last produced, but one of the last), external colour Celeste Chiario (Light Blue), Interior in Blue Leather. It was delivered to Maserati importer in UK. The vehicle was produced on March 1972.” The car is air-conditioned (and it blows cold air) and there is documentation on file noting the engine in the car is fitted with sprint camshafts. The car was sold and first registered in the UK on 12th May 1972. Its third owner was a Mr Peter Boyd who purchased the car in late 1976. He emigrated to Australia in 1977 bringing the car with him and selling it soon after to a Mr John Petrie in Sydney. In Mr Petrie’s ownership there is documentation on file noting the cars mileage as 44,000 genuine miles. Its next owner is understood to have been a Mr Luciano in Melbourne who had the car for a number of years before it was acquired by Terry Healy from Oldtimer Australia. Terry regularly used the car, and for some time as a daily driver before selling it in early 1998. At that time the odometer showed 62,000 miles. The car was repatriated back to the UK from Australia in 2014 and has had very little use since. At the moment the car requires one of the cylinder head gaskets replacing and recommissioning for the road

This Ghibli presented here is equipped with an automatic gearbox, which makes the car very special. The low mileage of 32 thousand miles is remarkable. This is the real mileage. The car was delivered in the USA after which it went to England and was then transported to Switzerland and then ended up in Germany. There is an appraisal report included and the condition is near concours. The technical condition of the car is excellent and difficult to find in today’s market. A beautiful Maserati for the true enthusiast.

This rare (one of 425 built), top-specification 1973 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS Coupe was first used by the factory as a demonstrator prior to being delivered in June 1973 at 24,000 km to R. Liechti A.G. in Bern, Switzerland. Finished in Marrone Corrado (Corrado Brown) over Senape (Mustard) leather upholstery, the Ghibli was delivered with an Autovox radio, power steering, and tool roll. At some point in the Ghibli’s life the original engine was replaced with a correct 4.9 SS unit numbered 1738.

This Ghibli was purchased by Neil Peart in late 2013 from its then-owner in Lugnorre, Switzerland, and imported to the US, where Ken Lovejoy serviced and maintained the Ghibli for Mr. Peart throughout his ownership. In keeping with Mr. Peart’s “Silver Surfers” collection theme, the Ghibli received a refinish in silver during 2014. Tan leather and correct Campagnolo alloy wheels provide beautiful accents. Further significant work included installation of a new stainless steel exhaust system in 2017 and an overhaul of the air-conditioning system in 2018, including a conversion to modern R134a refrigerant. According to Mr. Lovejoy, the Ghibli was one of Mr. Peart’s favorite vehicles to drive and enjoy, and his ownership is exhaustively documented by purchase, importation and registration paperwork, and a wealth of detailed service and maintenance records, plus the aforementioned copies of original factory production and delivery records. As offered, this exceedingly well-maintained Ghibli 4.9 SS Coupe is ready to be enjoyed and appreciated.Mr. Peart’s special Ghibli features correct Campagnolo center-lock alloy wheels, and it was added to his impressive group of “Silver Surfers” upon its importation from Europe in 2013.
