Finished in the stunning combination of Graphite Grey with Tobacco hide, this, very rare, low mileage, right-hand drive, Maserati Ghibli is fitted with an automatic gearbox and air conditioning. We understand the car has only covered just over 10,700 miles and is accompanied by a very impressive history file showing that it has clearly been very well maintained throughout its life. Indeed there is a comprehensive photographic record of the body restoration by a company that more usually works for Aston Martin Special Projects Division. The fabulous interior leatherwork, incidentally, was also carried out by ex-Aston Martin employees. There are also details on file of an engine rebuild by McGrath Maserati.

Our vendor acquired the car over 10 years ago from the son of the original owner who purchased the Maserati new in the UK but soon moved to Jersey, where it spent most of its life, hence the incredibly low mileage. In Jersey, it was maintained by Le Riche and there are significant invoices in the file for work carried out on the car.

In more recent years, the ‘Project Shop’ based in Bicester have worked on a comprehensive program of improvements based on recommendations that came from a detailed report from McGrath Maserati, who also supplied the parts. The work began in September 2019 and was finally completed in March this year, costing the seller around £15,000 in order to get the car driving exactly as he wants and bringing the whole car up to his exacting standards. All areas of the car were looked at including steering, suspension, braking system, electrics, full underside detailing, back axle, prop-shaft etc. There is a detailed summary of all this work in the file and the Ghibli has subsequently enjoyed a 100-mile shake-down and a complete nut and bolt check as well as an independent MOT with no advisories just before the sale, ensuring the car is ready for its next owner to enjoy this summer.

Offered with the aforementioned history file containing details of the work carried out over the years by notable specialists, an MOT and at a very competitive estimate when you consider the values of some its peers such as the Daytona. Silverstone Auctions are very proud to offer this wonderful example of Italian exotica and we welcome any pre-sale inspection.

This example was delivered new to Rome and is still presented in what is perhaps one of the very prettiest colour combinations on a Ghibli, Azzurro Artico over “Senape” (Tan) Connolly hides.
This particular Ghibli remained in Italy until 2014, when it was exported to Germany, right before being acquired by the current Belgium owner.
The general condition of the Ghibli can best be described as an older restoration that is still showing nicely.
This particular example left the factory with power steering and air-conditioning.

It retains its original matching numbers engine, which runs perfectly.
The bodywork has been repainted at least once but retains the original factory colour scheme.

For sale Aug 2014.
One of the very last Ghiblis supplied by the factory in 1973, built in December 1972.
The car was newly delivered to a Lebanese prince in Lebanon.
When the atmosphere in the country became a bit too hectic the prince shipped his wives(!) and his cars to his estate in England. After a few years the prince decided to part with the car because he did not feel secure with the left-hand drive car on the English country lanes.
The car was picked up by an English collector who used the car occasionally to make trips on the continent. After the collector decided to limit his collection to pre-war cars he offered the Ghibli to a friend of mine who fortunately informed me about the opportunity.

Fully restored to original specs!

One of only eight right hand drive cars, this beautiful 1972 Maserati Ghibli SS Coupe was supplied new to the UK and was housed in a private collection for over twenty years.
Dated 20th January 1972, the original order from Maserati of Modena confirmed this Ghibli SS was ordered via importer Citroen Cars Ltd. of Slough and was specified right hand drive with options of power steering, radio and two fog-lights. The car was finished in Rosso Fucco with Pelle Nera (black leather).
The original buff log book that accompanies the car confirms the Maserati was first registered (BTV 11K) on the 12th April 1972 and was supplied via Bristol Street Motors, Nottingham to a Mr Malcolm Stephenson of East Ayton near Scarborough, Yorkshire on the 12th May. Mr Stephenson owned the car until May 1976 when it was acquired by Lingdale Garage in Saltburn before being purchased on the 10th November 1982 by David Rhodes of Gatley near Cheadle in Cheshire.
By now registered 6 TPE, on the 12th April 1988 the Ghibli became part of the Classic Car Collection of Ian Wade of Mayfair, London and Shepley, Huddersfield where it would remain for over twenty years. During this period the car underwent a full restoration, being stripped to bare metal and repaired and re-painted in the current Blue Chiaro by noted Ferrari and Classic Car Coachbuilders Leslie Monk and Son. All mechanical and suspension parts were removed and were reconditioned or replaced where necessary, bright-work was re-chromed or replaced, the interior was refurbished along with new carpets and the engine and gearbox were stripped and rebuilt. The wheels were refurbished and new Michelin tyres fitted along with a new stainless steel exhaust system. Mechanics were undertaken by Graham Schultz of Modena Engineering with work being completed around 1996. The car was then displayed in the private museum collection until 2011 when Mr Wade sold the car and retained the registration 6 TPE so the Ghibli was re-registered to its current registration; BRJ 113K.

The car was then assessed ahead of re-commissioning by Maserati specialists R & D Automotive of Manchester who confirmed the restoration was to a very high standard with the engine showing excellent compression.

With just 2 subsequent owners, this SS has since taken part in several classic car events including the Goodwood Revival and last years’ Royal Concours at Holyrood, Edinburgh.

The car remains in excellent condition which reflects the quality of the previous restoration and comes complete with its original buff log book, Maserati certificate of origin and a generous history file.

I own a Ghibli SS spider conversion transformed in italy directly out of the factory with original spares from the factory based on one of the very latest coupé produced. The client wanted a new spider and that’s what the factory proposed him as they stopped producing the spider before the coupé. (the car need a mechanical restoration as it didn’t move since summer 94′ but stayed in a heathen place and the engine in out ). The car is complete and in good condition. no rust !!! Leather inside almost perfect
